CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Sept. 2, 2024) — Northgate lost its first seven games last year before finishing on a three-game winning streak. The Broncos have now won four in a row after opening with a 15-7 victory over Dougherty Valley in San Ramon. They begin Diablo Athletic League play this Friday in Moraga against Campolindo, which is smarting from an opening-round loss.

New College Park coach Jack Schram saw his Falcons on the short end of a 52-20 verdict in Pleasant Hill to San Marin of Novato. The Falcons host Clayton Valley Charter this Friday. The Ugly Eagles were shut out in Concord 17-0 by Spanish Springs of Sparks, Nevada on the newly dedicated Tim Murphy Field in Gonsalves Stadium.

CVCHS last played in the DAL in 2018 before the NCS moved them to the East Bay Athletic League for the 2019 season where the Concord school lost all its EBAL games, but Murphy’s Ugly Eagles went on to win the CIF 2-AA state championship. The game at College Park sees Clayton Valley Charter return to the DAL in the first of four rounds of interleague games necessitated by the 13-school DAL being divided into three football divisions.

Ygnacio Valley lost its season opener 73-0 to Alameda as the Wolves’ state longest winless streak reached 35 games since a last win in 2019. This Friday, Alameda visits Concord, which lost its first-ever football game as the Bears, the school’s new mascot which debuted with spring sports teams earlier this year.
