New preschool/daycare opens at St. John’s Episcopal
St. John’s Episcopal Church in Clayton, CA, is offering tours and accepting applicants for its new daycare and preschool services.
“St. John’s is thrilled to offer childcare services as a key part of our outreach to the community,” says Rev. Amanda May. “Early learning and socialization are key to successful children and stable families. We welcome all children, regardless of religious affiliation.”
The facility is a play-based preschool, licensed to care for 58 children age 2 to kindergarten entry. In addition, the school provides daycare for children 2 years and up. They will accept children in diapers and assist in potty training. State and federal assistance is available for qualifying families.
The preschool curriculum features the Learning Without Tears and First 5 Literacy programs, along with weekly chapel and emphasis on social and emotional development.
St. John’s preschool is an extension of the preschool at its sister church, St. Michael and All Angels in Concord, where May is also vicar. The Concord preschool has been in operation since 1979. Colleen Wilson serves as executive director of both schools, with Shonece Barney in charge of the St. John’s facility.
St. John’s Episcopal Church, located at 5555 Clayton Road in Clayton, has been a part of the Clayton-Concord community for more than 50 years. The preschool will host an Open House 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, with a bounce house, face painting, refreshments, games, crafts, tours and a discount for families who sign up during the event.
