Meals on Wheels Diablo Region Launches “Feed the Soul 2022”

Meals on Wheels Diablo Region Launches "Feed the Soul 2022"CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Feb. 25, 2022) — Meals on Wheels Diablo Region launched its second annual Feed the Soul Campaign this month so it can continue to provide Breakfast Bags to 4,600 vulnerable seniors. With the support of sponsors like Chevron Corporation, and NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48, MOW Diablo Region hopes to raise $28,000 in 28 days this February to ensure thousands of seniors will enjoy a healthy breakfast every day.

MOW Diablo Region currently delivers seven meals a week to homebound elders. For many, the meal they receive each day is the only meal they eat, often dividing it between lunch and dinner, and sometimes putting some aside to take with their medications. Adding breakfast to their daily meals can make the difference between hunger and good health for hungry older adults.

“MOW Diablo Region is very pleased to welcome back Chevron Corporation and appreciates their generous support, and NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48 as returning media sponsors of Feed the Soul,” said Caitlin Sly, MOW Diablo Region Executive Director. “Last year we introduced our Breakfast Bag program in response to the pandemic. Covid-19 dramatically increased food insecurity and isolation in older adults, and Breakfast Bags are one way we can meet the needs of the community we serve.”

Weekly Breakfast Bags

The Feed the Soul campaign will help MOW Diablo Region provide weekly Breakfast Bags to thousands of seniors who continue to face hunger and seclusion.

Filled with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, string cheese, hard boiled eggs, coffee and tea, the Breakfast Bags have made a big difference to the seniors MOW Diablo Region serves. Because they receive Breakfast Bags, seniors don’t feel hungry all day, and the extra food positively impacts their health and outlook. One appreciative senior got to the heart of the matter when she called the Breakfast Bags, “food for the soul.”

Feed the Soul 2022 runs the entire month of February. To help MOW Diablo Region provide 4,600 breakfasts to hungry elders, please join their sponsors with your donation today by going clicking here.
