Letter to the Editor — Suzan Requa letter re. Edi Birsan, October 27, 2024
CONCORD, CA (Nov. 2, 2024) — When I read the October 27 letter from Suzan Requa entitled “Edi Birsan Must Resign”, I couldn’t believe my eyes. In this letter, she quotes Edi as saying “I just want to put my hands around (named woman’s) neck, and choke her to death.” She claims that this statement was a “witness verified court statement”. Really? To make this vile statement with no context, and to attribute it only to some anonymous “witness verified court statement”, is preposterous. What witness? What court?
I have known Edi for 14 years, ever since I moved to Concord. As long as I have known him, I have seen him pour his heart and soul into improving the lives of Concord residents. He was instrumental in establishing the Contra Costa Family Justice Center. He has worked tirelessly to reduce homelessness. He goes out of his way to locate homeless individuals on the streets and in the parks in order to connect them with homeless services. He constantly works to improve our roads, bring affordable housing to Concord, and work with law enforcement and various social agencies to reduce the incidence of crime, including crimes against women. And he has been an effective advocate for funding the Concord Rainbow Center, ensuring that they would be funded when no one else on the Council was willing to include them in a recent grant allocation process.
So unless Suzan Requa can provide me with concrete evidence that he made this statement, together with its context, I will be proud to be voting for Edi, and I would encourage others to do the same.
