Letter to the Editor — Marisol Rubio is the Right Choice for State Senate District 9 – Here’s Why

CONCORD, CA (Nov. 4, 2024) — Councilmember Marisol Rubio is a candidate for State Senate that will make a real difference in our community. She’s a dedicated public servant with a strong commitment and vision for a better future that has convinced me she is the right person to represent us in the Senate.

Here’s why I support Marisol:

  • Champion for Women’s Rights: Marisol has consistently demonstrated her dedication to protect women’s rights, reproductive health, and education as a Founding Board Member of FemTruth Youth.
  • Passion for Education: Marisol is a staunch advocate for education, recognizing its pivotal role in shaping a prosperous future. With a background in neurobiology, Marisol understands how to best prepare our children for the jobs of tomorrow.
  • Commitment to Healthcare and People with Disabilities: Marisol is committed to timely, accessible, affordable healthcare and strongly believes in preventative care. As the parent of a childhood brain cancer survivor with lifelong disabilities and Founding Board Member of The Natalie Project, Marisol will ensure a healthy future for all.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Marisol is a strong proponent of environmental conservation, protections, and justice. She serves on several environmental executive boards and established the first-ever Climate Action Task Force in San Ramon and Labor-Climate Task Force in Contra Costa that brought all key stakeholders to the table.
  • Dedication to Building a Strong Economy: Marisol is committed to creating a strong economy that works for all of us by addressing the rising cost of living, improving educational outcomes and wages, and supporting small businesses and first-time home buyers.

Now more than ever our district needs a strong, compassionate leader who will advocate for our interests. That’s why I’m asking you to vote for Marisol Rubio for State Senate District 9 by Tuesday, November 5th.

A compassionate public servant

Marisol Rubio is my choice for State Senate District 9 because she’s been a compassionate public servant working for decades on solutions for individuals and families whose voices are ignored by corporate decision makers. Unlike her opponent who rakes in money from the insurance, banking, and fossil fuel industries, she has the support of workers, healthcare providers, and environmentalists. Unlike her opponent who flip-flops from Republican to Democrat and pro-life to pro-choice, she’s dedicated and consistent. Whether as a science researcher and teacher, the determined mother of a child born with a brain tumor, the co-founder of a fund that advocates for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or a board member of an organization that helps developing girls — healthcare is not just a policy issue for her.
