Letter to the Editor — Edi Birsan Must Resign
CONCORD, CA (Oct. 27, 2024) — Editor: When I first became community active, I was appointed Chair of the Concord Status of Women Committee. We joined an effort with the rape crisis non-profit and stand (new name) to move the police toward more humane treatment and strengthen legal support for rape victims and victims of family abuse.
Edi Birsan must resign for making this witness verified court statement: Edi: “I just want to put my hands around (named woman’s) neck, and choke her to death.” The woman attended the Concord City Council meeting and with great courage spoke out for the City Council records and to describe her fear and her family’s fear.
For me it is a significant red flag that Edi Birsan, our elected City Councilman representing all of us in his decision-making and community activities can make such an extreme verbal threat about a woman in a leadership position that he was working with for this election process.
Please join me in calling for Edi Birsan’s resignation. Send an email to https://cityofconcord.org/237/Mayor-City-Council
We can use the help of every women’s organization to join providing a request calling for Edi’s resignation. I have called for the Concord Police Association to withdraw their endorsement.
Suzan Requa,
Concord Resident District 4
