Letter to the Editor — Concord Communities Alliance supports tenant protections

CONCORD, CA (Mar. 13, 2024) — Concord Communities Alliance (CCA) seeks to build a more just and equitable city for all residents, responding to the CA Apartment Association (CAA) advertisement, which appeared as an open letter to the Concord City Council published on 3/8/2024.

It is deceptive in its tone and facts.

Concord City Council has discussed and debated tenant protections for over ten years, and the CA Apartment Association (CAA) have been present to oppose it. The discussion did not arrive overnight from a smoke-filled room.

Single-family homes and condos are not rent-restricted.

Landlords can replace tenants when leases end, but if an owner wants to evict a tenant for no fault, the landlord must help with a fair financial relocation fee.

While the signatories to the letter are Concord residents, the California Apartment Association (CAA), who sponsored this ad, is not. They have a history of using deceptive language such as that in this letter to garner support. CAA is using its deep pockets to mislead and confuse voters.
