PLEASANT HILL, CA (July 28, 2023) — To help keep Pleasant Hill clean and litter free, the City of Pleasant Hill and Republic Services have installed a new style of trash container called a Bigbelly. The containers appear at two high-volume bus stops, Viking and Contra Costa Blvd. and Monument and Buskirk.

What is a Bigbelly? It’s a large, solar-powered garbage can that has an automatic trash compactor inside, allowing it to hold five times more waste than a regular trash can.

When a Bigbelly can hold no more, it transmits a wireless signal to Republic Services, telling them to come service it.

Once waste goes in, it can’t come out. A fully enclosed bin means no visible waste and no windblown litter, eliminating a food source for pests and keeping your space safer. So feed a Bigbelly when you see one.
