Friday night road construction in Concord creates traffic headaches
CONCORD, CA (Nov. 4, 2023) — Paving work on Concord streets last night created a huge headache for many residents.
Workers completely closed off the intersection of Clayton Road and Market Street. This includes the ramp on and off of highway 242. Cars coming down Clayton Road to get onto 242 were forced to make a u-turn at Pine Street. This meant a big detour for those trying to traverse the freeway.
However, if you live in neighborhoods along Market Street and Meadow Lane, travel home became a bigger problem. Crews had also closed Meadow Lane at Sunshine Drive. This cut off any obvious way to get home for hundreds of residents.
Not only were travelers lost in trying to find a way into the blocked off neighborhood, but cars were seen driving around trying to figure out how to get out as well.
There were no signs that the portion of Market Street and Meadow Lane would be closed even just a few hours earlier. And no signs directed people where they should go to navigate the area.
The good news is that it looks like the paving work will finish soon.
