Free concert in downtown Concord will feature local singer-songwriters

Free concert in downtown Concord will feature local singer-songwritersCONCORD, CA 08/02/2020 — The grassroots network of local, independent musicians known as Concord Couch Concerts (CCC) will host the first ever “Singer-Songwriter Saturday.” The event happens Saturday, August 7, from 12 PM to 2 PM in Todos Santos Park.

In contrast to the tribute-act-heavy Music & Market series, this 2-hour event will feature six different local artists. Each artist will play 15-20 minutes of entirely original music.

The mostly acoustic concert will include performances by Concord resident Rachael Kayte, Joe Skandalaris, Stewart Patrick of the local roots rock group Radiokeys, Vallejo R&B artist iraya, Jesse Reeves of Fooling Marie, and Derek Bodkin & Brian Vandemark of the Hovering Breadcat Folk Ensemble.

“As with our virtual concerts, it’s really important for us to keep the line-up eclectic!  We’re elated to be featuring a range of genres as we celebrate original music here in the birthplace of Dave Brubeck,” said event organizer Dave Hughes.

The Concord Couch Concerts team hopes to repeat this showcase on the first Saturdays of the month. However, they will need additional sponsors to pay for permits and city fees.  The CCC team used nearly half of their existing funds to make the August 7 event come to fruition. They also got some assistance from Todos Santos Business Association Arts Foundation.

All featured artists perform on a volunteer basis for the sheer love of celebrating local original music.  While they welcome tips, there is no cost of admittance to this community event.

Organizers encourage the public to bring their own water and sun protection, including pop-up tents.
