Joe Field said, reflecting on the store’s move, “There’s a time to look back and we’ve done a lot of that recently. Now is the time to look forward and to all the good things yet to come.”

CONCORD, CA (Sept. 1, 2024) —Last night, Joe Field closed the doors at Flying Colors Comics on Treat Blvd. for the final time. The iconic shop which shared comics and collectibles and “other cool stuff” has been a gathering place for comics lovers since 1988.

Rising rent at the longtime Oak Grove location finally pushed Field to relocate to a new Concord location. While other comic shops came and went in the area, Flying Colors remained the place to go for several generations of fans.

“I used to do my older brother’s chores so that he would drive me over to Flying Colors from Martinez,” said Craig Williams. “And then years later I get to bring my daughter here and kinda pass it on. It’s such a fun place that feeds creativity and imagination.”

While longtime patrons of the store will miss visiting the familiar shop, the new location is scheduled to open at 1170 Concord Ave. Suite 140 on Sept. 4.
