Embracing sustainable living and fitness in Concord
CONCORD, CA (Jan. 26, 2025) — As we step into 2025, many of us are filled with the energy of new beginnings. It’s a fresh slate to create positive change.
If you’re like me, you’re eager to leave behind the challenges of the previous year, focusing on what lies ahead – whether it’s adopting new habits or simply making small changes in everyday life. For me, that includes embracing sustainability, improving fitness and supporting local businesses that keep Concord thriving.
While some may go for drastic resolutions like committing to a dry January or training for a marathon in six months, my approach is a little more gradual. I’m all about planting small seeds that, over time, contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. I don’t aim for perfection but focus on actions that make a difference.
For example, I’ve become much more conscious about the packaging that comes with the products I buy. I’m committed to continuing to shop locally whenever possible – and it will be by bicycle whenever possible.
A major goal this year is reducing waste, and I’ve been particularly focused on proper recycling. It’s surprising, but I find I’m one of the few people I know using the cool little countertop green waste bins provided by Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery. I feel good knowing my efforts contribute to a cleaner environment, and it’s a simple step that makes a big difference.
When it comes to staying active, I plan to continue with the fitness routine I started in 2024. Walking at least four days a week worked wonders for me last year, so I’m keeping that as my goal for 2025.
Concord is full of incredible options for anyone looking to get fit or stay fit, no matter where you are on your fitness journey.
Many options
One standout is Contra Costa Fitness, a community-driven gym that emphasizes not just physical fitness but also support and guidance. It’s a family-owned business where you can work toward your fitness goals in an environment that feels more like a close-knit community.
Another favorite is UFC Gym, a Concord staple for more than 20 years, now relocating to Sunvalley Mall. Whether you’re into martial arts or just want a good workout, UFC offers a wide variety of classes to keep you engaged.
If you prefer a more personalized experience, check out Body Wellness. Their one-on-one approach ensures that you get individualized attention, making each session tailored to your needs. Fitness is as much about mental clarity as it is about physical strength, and Body Wellness captures that balance beautifully.
As we enjoy all that Concord has to offer, remember the power of supporting local businesses. When we shop and dine within our community, we’re not just making a transaction. We’re also investing in the people who make Concord such a special place. Whether it’s grabbing a coffee at a local café or supporting our gyms and health professionals, every choice matters.
So, as we continue through this new year, I encourage you to show kindness to those serving you. Make small efforts toward sustainability and explore the incredible fitness opportunities that are right here in our city.
And whenever possible, shop locally. It’s one of the best ways to strengthen our community and help our businesses thrive.
Let’s make 2025 a year of growth, sustainability and strong community connections.
