Contra Costa County lifts curfew, Clayton curfew also rescinded

Contra Costa County administrators lifted the countywide curfew on Thursday, June 4. The county has left it up to individual cities to decide whether they will continue to enforce evening curfews.

Clayton Police Chief Elise Warren released a statement today which rescinded the 6 p.m. curfew in Clayton immediately as well.

Here is the new order from Contra Costa County:

During the past weeks, acts of violence and other criminal activity, looting, arson, injuries to individuals, including a shooting, and destruction of property, took place in Contra Costa County and throughout the Bay Area, including areas of Walnut Creek, Antioch, Richmond, and San Pablo. Due to these conditions of imminent danger to life and property, Contra Costa County and many of its cities, as well as other cities and counties throughout the Bay Area, imposed nighttime curfews to protect local businesses and residents.
As Contra Costa County’s Administrator of Emergency Service, I have reviewed, on a daily basis, the conditions that necessitated the June 2, 2020, Countywide curfew. At this point, it appears that the public order and safety has generally been restored in Contra Cost County and it is therefore appropriate to life the emergency Countywide curfew.
Now, therefore, it is hereby ordered that:
Effective 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2020, the emergency Countywide curfew is rescinded. This action does not affect any city curfews that remain in effect. Cities will make their own determination as to whether curfews continue to be needed within their commercial districts or other areas within those cities.
David J. Twa, County Administrator, Contra Costa County
