Concord’s Music and Market series continues with The Purple Ones Sept. 9
CONCORD, CA (Sept. 9, 2021) — Concord’s popular summer concert series brings live music to Todos Santos Plaza every Thursday through Sept. 30.
Tonight’s band, The Purple Ones, delivers its own spin on the music of Prince. The Oakland band also brings influences from Prince-related artists such as The Revolution, The New Power Generation, Sheila E., Morris Day & The Time and the general Minneapolis Sound.
The Purple Ones is a labor of love that was born in 2012 when Bay Area based bandleader and founder, Morty Okin (“The New Morty Show,” decided to focus all of his energy on “building the greatest Prince homage on the planet.” The band brings audiences to their feet with a distinctive high energy sound.
Celebrating community
“We are excited to see Music & Market and other community events return to Concord’s ‘living room,’” said Mayor Tim McGallian earlier this summer. “More than 70 percent of Contra Costa residents are fully vaccinated, which has enabled us to bring back the events that our community has come to know and love. I encourage all of our residents to have some fun responsibly and, of course, get vaccinated!”
The City thanks the community sponsors who make the concert series possible. This includes Ashby Lumber, Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery, Pacific Service Credit Union, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association, Concord POA, and Visit Concord.
Residents and visitors can enjoy Music & Market every Thursday through September 30. The event takes place in Todos Santos Plaza at the corner of Willow Pass Road and Grant Street. Parking is free. The farmers’ market opens at 4 p.m., and concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.
