Concord tree inventory continues citywide
CONCORD, CA (Dec. 23, 2023) — Concord is in the process of conducting a tree inventory throughout the city.
Consultants PlanIT Geo and American Tree Medics have Certified Arborists deployed throughout the community. They will continue working on this project through April 2024.
Tree inventories provide an important tool to assist local urban forest managers. They provide a big-picture view of the City’s urban forest, which can help identify potential threats to the trees in the city.
This endeavor assists in locating potential gaps in canopy coverage and prioritize maintenance efforts. It also guides future policy. In this tree inventory, the Certified Arborists will map and evaluate all of the trees, stumps, and potential planting sites within the city rights-of-way, facilities, and public parks. Trees in these locations will be identified and assessed for health, condition, location information, and maintenance needs.
Once collected, the tree and planting site data attributes and locations provide urban forest managers the power to proactively manage their tree population and reduce potential liabilities and prepare for potential threats to the state’s urban forest.
The Arborists are easily identifiable. They wear high visibility safety vests, carrying tablets, and driving a vehicle marked with magnets displaying the company logo.
