Concord police honor brave young victims of hit-and-run

After being inspired by her resiliency, the Concord Police Department surprised a hit-and-run victim and her little brother with gifts on July 31.

At about 12:50 p.m. on July 24, a vehicle hit 12-year-old Alainn while she crossed the intersection of Clayton Road and Claycord Avenue. She was on her bicycle with her 8-year-old brother. After the vehicle fled the scene, Alainn’s mother stayed with her until help arrived. Her brother ran all the way home to get their father.

Alainn was transported to a local hospital with moderate to severe injuries and is expected to recover, according to police public information officer David Petty. She wore a helmet, which the police department credits for saving her life.

After the accident, various officers came in to surprise her with a new pink bicycle and helmet.

“We have all been touched and inspired by her positive attitude and resiliency,” the Police Department posted on Facebook post. “We also gave her 8-year-old brother a gift for being so brave during the entire ordeal.”

Police found the suspect vehicle and a passenger, a 27-year-old male Concord resident, nearby on St. Garrett Court. The driver, a 24-year-old female Concord resident, fled into Newhall Park. Police located her near Wharton Way.

Police arrested the driver for fleeing the scene of the accident that resulted in the injury of a person. Charges included driving under the influence of a drug and violating the terms of her probation. She also had warrants. Police also arrested the passenger for resisting arrest and violating the terms of his probation.

Alainn, now recovering at home, hopes to get back to her passion of jiu-jitsu soon, according to the Facebook post.
