Concord Police catch burglary suspect after crash into restaurant
On Monday night, officers from Concord Police Department were dispatched to a vehicle burglary in progress. This is their story (reported on the Concord PD Instagram account:
- “Yes, we are still under shelter-in-place orders and no, being a criminal is not considered an essential job.
- The would-be thief was scared off by a security guard and left in a white SUV. An observant officer found a white SUV nearby, matching the description given. When the officer got behind the SUV, it became apparent that the driver had no intention of stopping and speaking with us. He immediately fled initiating a pursuit. We, on the other hand, still had every intention of speaking with this individual and pursued him.
- The driver almost immediately crashed into a tree, which caused his SUV to flip on its side and break through a restaurant window. With the help of our officers and a K9, he displayed his first rational good decision of the night and surrendered peacefully.
- The driver was identified by a witness as the suspect trying to break into cars. He was treated for his injuries at the hospital and hopefully will make better decisions next time. We are thankful he didn’t injure any community members. We hope everyone follows the shelter-in-place orders and flattens the curve.”
