Concord Police arrest suspected car thief after pursuit

CONCORD, CA (Nov. 13, 2023) — On Sunday, at approximately 5:15 a.m. a Concord Police Officer observed a silver Honda SUV driving recklessly in the downtown district.

The SUV had no license plates and the Officer attempted to stop the driver. After the driver refused to stop, a pursuit ensued.

The driver eventually stopped the vehicle on Almond Way and the vehicle slowly rolled into the front yard of the residence. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot, with the Officer in pursuit. After a brief foot pursuit, the driver was arrested.

Police identified the driver as 43 year old Clenton Fugate (Concord/San Leandro). Mr. Fugate is a convicted felon and is on felony probation for burglary in Alameda County.

Officers determined that the vehicle was stolen after being taken during a commercial burglary. Further investigation revealed methamphetamine and a firearm magazine with live rounds of ammunition inside the vehicle.

Multiple charges

Police arrested Mr. Fugate and booked him into the Concord PD Jail for the following charges:

PC496D(a) – Possession of a stolen vehicle
VC2800.2 – Recklessly Evading a peace officer
VC2800.4 – Evading a peace officer while driving wrong direction
PC30305(a) – Convicted felon in possession of ammunition
PC148(a)(1) – Resisting/Delaying a peace officer
HS11377(a) – Possession of a dangerous drug
PC1203.2 – Violation of probation

The investigation into Fugate’s other crimes throughout his time in the stolen vehicle continues.CPD forwarded his case to the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office for filing considerations.
