Concord Cooling Center on Hot Days

Temperatures in the East Bay are expected to soar this week. Stay cool in Concord.

The Concord Senior Center is a designated Cooling Center when temperatures rise above 100 degrees. Older adults are vulnerable to heat illness, especially if they have heart disease or high blood pressure or take medications for depression or insomnia.

The Concord Senior Center, located at 2727 Parkside Circle in John Baldwin Park, offers a lounge area for people to cool off from the high temperatures.

Cooling Center hours are: 
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors are invited to bring an activity as well as their own snacks and drinks. The center has a lending library with books and magazines for those who would like to read while taking a break from the heat.

Residents are also encouraged to visit the Concord Community Pool and the Meadow Homes Spray Park. The spray park is open from 12-6 p.m. during the summer and from 3-6 p.m. on school days in August and September, beginning Thursday, August 15. Pool hours can be found here.

The Monument Crisis Center at 1990 Market Street and the Concord Library at 2900 Salvio St. are also reported to be designated cooling centers on hot days.
