CONCORD, CA—The organizers of the Annual Concord 5000 run/walk didn’t let the pandemic get in the way of helping the Contra Costa Blue Star Moms.  Although the live 5K could not be held this year, race sponsors Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union, Orangetheory Fitness Concord/Clayton, and Road Runner Sports teamed up to raise funds for the Blue Star Moms Holiday Care Package drive.

The Contra Costa Blue Star Moms were able to send over 140 care packages to troops stationed far from home over the Holidays.  “The service members really appreciate getting something special, and often times the packages are shared with those in their living quarters,” said Carol Prell, a member of the Blue Star Moms.  Each package costs about $20 in postage alone to send out, so every donation counts,” continued Prell.

John Pamer, CEO of lead sponsor Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union said “in a year where everything is upended, we were determined to still do what we could. The race was cancelled but making a positive difference in our community is never cancelled, and we are glad to help.”
