Clayton Valley Charter High School Opens Introduction to Design Course for Class of 2029

CONCORD, CA (Feb. 21, 2025) — Clayton Valley Charter High School (CVCHS) is excited to announce its Introduction to Design (IED) course, now open to all incoming freshmen in the Class of 2029. This innovative course serves as an Art elective, an Engineering course, and a STEAM class—all rolled into one.

IED is part of the CVCHS Engineering and Design Academy Pathway and offers 10 credits as an Art elective. It is also recognized as a UC/CSU a-g “f” approved Visual & Performing Arts course. The curriculum is project-based, giving students hands-on experience in designing, developing, and constructing real-world solutions.

What Students Will Learn in Introduction to Design

  • Communication: Developing essential “soft skills” to communicate effectively.
  • Critical Thinking: Learning to understand and apply new knowledge to solve problems.
  • Creativity: Fostering self-expression and innovation.
  • Collaboration: Building teamwork skills and appreciating peers’ contributions.
  • Computer & Technology Skills: Gaining valuable digital literacy to excel in high school and beyond.

As a fun bonus, each student who enrolls in the course will receive a free IED Class of 2029 T-shirt.
