CHP arrests Contra Costa man suspected in June freeway shooting incident
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Sept. 12, 2023) — California Highway Patrol has arrested 57-year-old Nestor Palacios of Oakley, Calif. Detectives assigned to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Golden Gate Division (GGD) Special Investigations Unit identified Palacios as the main suspect in a shooting in the Oakland Area in June. The GGD Canine Unit and CHP Oakland Area assisted in the arrest.
On June 20, 2023, officers assigned to the CHP’s Oakland Area office received reports of a freeway shooting. It occured near the Interstate 580 (1-580) interchange with State Route 24 (SR-24). The gunfire did not strike the victim but he discovered a single bullet had hit his vehicle.
During the subsequent investigation, detectives obtained information that identified Palacios as the suspect in the shooting. On Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at approximately 5:35 p.m., officers took Palacios into custody without incident.
During the arrest, detectives located a concealed loaded pistol on Palacios. Following his arrest, Palacios was booked into Martinez Detention Facility on charges of attempted murder, shooting at a vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, and carrying a concealed firearm.
