SF Cheer team delights the crowd at Concord Pride festival
Cheer SF is a volunteer cheer leading team which has been entertaining crowds and dedicated to community philanthropy since 1980.

The Rainbow Community Center hosted the 12th annual “Pride on the Plaza” festival on Saturday, June 1. The gathering kicked off a month of LGBTQ events marking the 50th anniversary of Stonewall uprising in New York City.

People started gathering in Todos Santos Plaza at 10 a.m. to celebrate with a DJ, live music and other performances. The colorful event also included food trucks, a beer and wine bar truck, and kids’ play area, and exhibitors from the local community.

A friendly Darth Vader and Stormtrooper posed for photos with guests while bikers rode along the park trailing rainbow streamers. The event lasted until 6 p.m.

“Celebrating diversity, equality, inclusiveness, and equity is not a Democratic or Republican issue, it’s not a Conservative or Liberal issue—it’s a human rights issue,” said Jack Rednour-Bruckman, Executive Director of Rainbow, adding that the Center is proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the modern LGBTQ rights movement with our community and allies.”

San Francisco Cheer team wowed onlookers with flips and tumbling performances several times during the day and encouraged donations for the Rainbow Center. Rainbow’s programs serve LGBTQ youth and their families; work to prevent bullying in schools; provide visiting and food services for people living with HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ seniors; deliver low cost mental health services; and operate mental health training programs, as well as provide LGBTQ diversity training and education.
