A love letter to President Biden: It’s time to step aside
(July 18, 2024) — There is no one in politics I respect more than Joe Biden, who has loyally served the United States in more significant roles than any other elected official in history.
After 36 years as a U.S. senator, eight years as vice president and four years as president, I firmly believe he cares deeply about our country. His presidency brought us from the brink of disaster created by COVID, Jan. 6th and the dastardly policies of his predecessor to where we are today – high employment, a strong economy and continued strength on the world stage.
I love Biden and am so very appreciative for everything he has given up serving our country and its great people. What he has accomplished in his 48 years of serving our nation deserves the highest praise and respect.
But now, we must respectfully and honorably ask Biden to step aside and make room for a presidential candidate who can beat Donald Trump in November. It’s not that we don’t love or appreciate you, Joe. It’s that the stakes are just too high for America and for the world.
As citizens, we are beginning to understand how devastating a Trump win would be to democracy in America. It’s less about Trump the convict, the dictator, or his self-serving, narcissistic behavior. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. It’s more about who is backing him and why. And what’s behind that curtain should absolutely frighten every American.
Project 2025
Project 2025, organized and implemented by the conservative Heritage Foundation, outlines the ultra-conservative plan for our nation should Trump win the presidency. Ironically, Trump is just a pawn in their game. In fact, in a New York Times interview before he was taken to prison, Steve Bannon depicts Trump as “not conservative enough” for the liking of Project 2025.
Project 2025 (project2025.org) boasts a “180 Day Playbook” of personnel and policies its leaders will implement in the first 180 days of a Trump administration. So, listen up Trump supporters: This is what you will get if Trump is elected.
The Project 2025 agenda includes dismantling of the Departments of Justice, Education and Homeland Security, the FBI, the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency – replacing civil servants with personnel committed to the Project 2025 doctrine. It also supports raising the retirement age and eliminating Social Security; eliminating unions and worker protections; a total ban on abortion and contraception; elimination of no-fault divorce and national recognition for the “traditional family”; barring Muslims from entering the country and forcing immigrants to be deported or placed in “camps”; tax cuts for the rich while raising taxes on the middle class; elimination of climate protections and much more.
Trump denies knowing anything about Project 2025. Don’t be hoodwinked by the orange fool’s lies. Its leaders served him in the Trump administration.
This is why we need the President Joe Biden we love to make the right decision and step aside. It’s less about his age, or his ability to serve. It’s all about the imminent dangers a Trump administration will certainly bring. It would absolutely destroy the America we know and love.
Please Joe, do the right thing.
