BART welcomes musicians for Bach in the Subways celebration, March 21-31
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Feb. 28, 2025) — Local musicians have a unique opportunity to showcase their talents at BART stations as part of Bach in the Subways, a global event celebrating the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. From March 21 to March 31, performers can bring live music to transit riders at the Lafayette BART station and other participating locations.
Musicians of all skill levels—whether solo performers or groups—are encouraged to participate. While playing Bach’s compositions is recommended, it is not required. However, amplified music is not allowed.
To take part, musicians must complete two simple steps:
Register with Bach in the Subways, the international organization behind the event.
Apply for a free Expressive Activity Permit from BART.
Bach in the Subways began in 2010 in New York City and has since grown into a worldwide movement, bringing classical music to public spaces. The event aims to inspire new audiences and celebrate the enduring legacy of Bach’s compositions.
