So This Happened…Week of Dec. 16-22, 2024
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Dec. 22, 2024) — Three women are leading the way into 2025 as the City Councils in Concord, Clayton and Pleasant Hill selected new mayors – Carlyn Obringer, Kim Trupiano and Sue Noack, respectively.
The decisions came as the Clayton council once again bypassed Holly Tillman, the longest-serving councilmember without holding the title of mayor.
Meanwhile, the Concord council opted at a November meeting not to amend the procedure for choosing a mayor. The changes were something long sought after by outgoing Mayor Edi Birsan, who said it would have taken politics out of the process.
Concord then and now: Joel Harris’ “Concord: Past and Present” features 120 historical places around town. In his second book about the city, he provides vintage photos along with modern images. “You do learn something about your community through these books,” noted Lynn Kuehl, owner of Berkshire Books. Athletes ready for the next level: As 31 local seniors signed letters of intent for college sports, the majority will be heading out of California to participate in swimming, lacrosse, gymnastics, volleyball, soccer, softball, diving, baseball, basketball, football, track/cross country, wrestling, equestrian, golf and water polo. In other sports news, the De La Salle and Carondelet water polo teams both made it to the playoff finals before falling to Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton.
