5K Concord Turkey Trot and Kids Run to help feed Contra Costa’s hungry this Thanksgiving
CONCORD, CA (Nov. 13, 2024) — Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union will once again bring the Thanksgiving spirit to life with the Concord Turkey Trot at Newhall Park.
Scheduled to kick off at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, the event offers a 5K Run/Walk and a 1/8-mile Kids Run to raise funds for Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa. This nonprofit provides food and basic services to residents in need.
This year, organizers are aiming to raise $30,000 for Loaves and Fishes, a significant increase from last year’s $21,200. Since 1983, the charity has served over 5 million meals to Contra Costa residents, underscoring the importance of community support as food insecurity continues to impact the region.
Runners and walkers will gather early at Newhall Park, located at 1351 Newhall Parkway, for check-in and pre-race activities starting at 6:30 a.m. The event will feature amenities including age-based awards, timed race results, on-course hydration, distance markers, and tech t-shirts for finishers. Participants can register in advance for $40 or on race day, if available, for $50, with a cap at 1,000 participants.
The 5K course will lead runners over varied terrain, including park pathways and city streets. For safety, those with strollers or pets will be asked to start at the back. Rain or shine, the event promises a morning of fun, fitness, and community spirit for a worthy cause.
Proceeds will directly benefit Loaves and Fishes, whose programs serve thousands across Contra Costa County each year. The organizers are also seeking volunteers to help with the event.
Turkey Trot organizers still need volunteers for the event as well. To sign up for the 5K or to volunteer, click here.
