CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Oct. 13, 2024) — Concord police are looking for witnesses after a fatal hit-and-run Oct. 6 at a gas station on the 2800 block of Grant Street. Police arrested a suspect a short distance away but have not identified the 33-year-old male victim. For more from Concord PD, see their latest arrest report.

Pleasant Hill moves to district elections: Voters have the choice of two candidates each in the newly created City Council districts of 1 and 5. In District 2, Andrei Obolenskiy was running unopposed and the council has already appointed her to the seat. (Read the complete story)

Meanwhile, former Walnut Creek Mayor Gail Murray writes about voter suppression and the importance of “down ballot” measures and races.

Conviction in identity theft case: A 23-year-old Ukiah man pled guilty to felony identity theft, money laundering and grand theft charges in a case involved an account holder at a Chase Bank in Pleasant Hill.

Andrew Mundy of Pleasant Hill PD investigated the case for several months. “When it comes to financial crimes, the challenges can be steep. But Officer Mundy’s impressive investigation and Deputy DA Dana Filkowski’s thorough preparation for prosecution led to a just outcome for the victim of this crime,” said Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton.
