Join Visit Concord and Port Chicago Alliance for Fleet Fest this weekend

CONCORD, CA (Oct. 11, 2024) — Visit Concord is proud to announce its partnership with the National Park Service and the Port Chicago Alliance to host Fleet Fest, a premier event during San Francisco Fleet Week 2024. Taking place at Piers 30/32 on October 12-13, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, this free, family-friendly festival will offer a captivating mix of history, live music, and the unique opportunity to board a U.S. Navy vessel.

Fleet Fest will blend education with entertainment, providing an enriching experience for attendees of all ages. A key feature will be the opportunity to tour the U.S. Navy’s Landing Dock Amphibious (LDA) ship, while the Port Chicago Pop-Up Museum will bring to life the harrowing events of the 1944 Port Chicago disaster—a tragic explosion that significantly influenced the civil rights movement in America. The pop-up museum will include video exhibits, original artwork, and heartfelt remembrances, honoring the lives lost and the event’s profound impact on history.

In addition to its historical significance, Fleet Fest will also showcase live performances by Skidaddle and Nayeli Roman, creating a vibrant atmosphere along the waterfront.

Admission to Fleet Fest is free, and all are encouraged to visit this important tribute to Port Chicago and the servicemen who shaped our nation’s past. Fleet Fest is a highlight of San Francisco Fleet Week and provides a meaningful way to commemorate both Fleet Week and the legacy of Port Chicago.
