CONCORD, CA (August 8, 2024) — White Pony Express (WPE), a pioneering food recovery organization, has announced its relocation to new headquarters in Concord.

The move substantially enhances and expands its service capabilities. It also reflects WPE’s commitment to addressing nutrition insecurity in Contra Cost County by recovering and distributing fresh, nutritious food.

To celebrate, WPE will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 23 at 3:30pm. The event will take place at their new location: 2470 Bates Avenue in Concord, CA.

The new space includes features that allow WPE to respond to the increasing demand for healthy food across the county. Notably, it offers five times the refrigeration and freezer capacity, including racks and forklift access through rolling doors. The facility also provides a more efficient, uplifting, and comfortable space for volunteers and staff.

“Demand for WPE’s fresh food deliveries has grown exponentially,” says Eve Birge, CEO of White Pony Express. “Today we are among the most active food recovery organizations in California. WPE provides healthy food to 98 community-based organizations; rescues food from 75 grocers, distributors, farmers, and restaurants; welcomes 700 volunteers; and generates thousands of hours of service among corporate community partners. All of this is done free of charge.”

“WPE has 70 nonprofits on our waitlist for food. We remain steadfast in our mission to provide access to fresh, healthy food for our neighbors in need,” continues Birge.
