Mark your calendar for Concord’s Juneteenth Celebration June 23

CONCORD, CA (June 15, 2024) — Concord’s Todos Santos Plaza will host a celebration on Sun., June 23, for the 2nd Annual Juneteenth event from 12-4 p.m. Organized by the Concord Communities Alliance (CCA) with local leaders and business owners, the event promises an unforgettable experience spotlighting freedom, culture, and community.

Juneteenth, or Freedom Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the U.S. It highlights the ongoing struggle for equality and justice and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Black community.

This year’s event features performers, including spoken word artists, musicians, and dance groups. Attendees can look forward to Capoeira demonstrations and Double Dutch team performances. There will be activities for children and families.

The event will include a wellness village offering Reiki healing sessions, massages, and health information from local nonprofits.

Food enthusiasts can choose from various culinary options, including seafood, jambalaya, and comfort food. Those seeking a relaxed experience can enjoy a tea party with treats from Hen & Drake.

Last year’s Juneteenth celebration attracted over a thousand participants, known for its authenticity and inclusivity. With over 90% Black-owned vendors and entertainment, the event highlighted the talents and contributions of the Black community.

The CCA, a volunteer-based organization dedicated to fostering community and promoting civic engagement, proudly hosts this event. Support from sponsors like NAMI Contra Costa and John Muir Health has made the celebration possible.
