Local Halloween events scare up community spirit in Concord, Clayton and Pleasant Hill
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Oct. 31, 2023) — Happy Halloween to our Pioneer readers in Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Clayton. A thrilling array of spooky events and family-friendly festivities to celebrate the season started last Friday. And, to be honest, many homes around town had their front yards fully tricked out with skeletons and ghosts on Oct. 1.
From Trunk or Treat events to haunted trails, children of all ages have already filled up on treats before Halloween officially begins tonight. And let’s not forget that Dia de los Muertos continues the festivities tomorrow as well.
Dia de los Muertos is a cherished tradition that pays homage to Mexican heritage and commemorates loved ones who have passed away. On Sunday, Concord library invited folks to a display of colorful altars, butterflies. Exploring the traditions of Dia de los Muertos, visitors created papel picado (colorful paper banners) and other crafts. This event celebrated the beauty of life and death.
Clayton hosted a fantastic Trunk or Treat event this weekend as well. Local businesses and community members came together to decorate their vehicles in creative and spooky themes, filling the parking lot with a colorful array of trunks filled with candy and treats. The Pioneer also invited dog lovers to our Woof-O-Ween canine costume contest.
Trick or Treat trails
For those who prefered a spookier Halloween experience, Pleasant Hill’s Haunted Trail provided a scary good time. Located in the beautiful Paso Nogal Park, this event is an annual tradition that features a winding, dimly lit trail where various spooky characters and scenes came to life.
Meanwhile Concord had its own Spooktacular Trick or Treat Trail on Sunday. Local organizations and individuals joined forces to turn the Baldwin Park into a Halloween wonderland. The Concord Police Department got in on the fun as well.
But today, the main event arrives. The Pioneer newspaper wishes all a safe and happy Halloween night.
