Week 6 football lost cause for local schools with only one winner
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Oct. 2, 2023) — De La Salle comes into its bye week on a four-game winning streak with the latest result a 21-0 blanking of Oakland Section power McClymonds as the Spartans continue to move past their 0-2 start to the season.
DLS has the week off before the highly anticipated visit of undefeated, high scoring San Ramon Valley to Owen Owens Field on Friday the 13th. That game will most likely determine this fall’s No. 1 ranked North Coast Section Open/Division I team heading into the playoffs with only 5-0 Pittsburg also in that conversation.
All other local schools playing last Friday came up on the short end of the scoresheet.
Northgate lost its Battle of the Creek game at Las Lomas 38-31 after giving up a 31-14 lead. The Knights 57-yard winning touchdown pass, which broke a 31-all tie, came in the final three minutes. The result left Northgate winless and Las Lomas unbeaten.
Miramonte also is a perfect 5-0 after the Orinda school beat College Park 21-12 in a Diablo Athletic League game.
Clayton Valley Charter suffered its second shutout loss of the season to Jesuit-Carmichael as the once potent Ugly Eagles offense had trouble getting first downs.
Alhambra raced out to a 35-0 halftime advantage and finished off a fourth shutout loss for Concord High in the DAL opener for both teams.
Mt. Diablo had a bye last week. They will be expected to outscore winless Ygnacio Valley this Friday in a battle of ancient Concord rivals at Hart Fairclough Stadium. This sets up a DAL Valley Division showdown with Alhambra in Martinez Oct. 13.
