CONCORD, CA (Sept. 18, 2023) — Senior transfer Herschel Turner Jr. continues to rewrite the century-old Mt. Diablo High School football record book with seven touchdowns including three plays of 50 or more yards and a defensive TD to boot last Friday for the Red Devils in their 53-20 win over visiting San Lorenzo on Alumni Day in Hart Fairclough Stadium.

Mt. Diablo owns the area’s best record at 3-1 as they conclude their non-league schedule in Oakland this Friday against Castlemont.

Turner now has 24 touchdowns in four games and over 1150 yards rushing on only 51 carries. After moving to the Concord school last term from Heritage-Brentwood his profile has grown with schools around the country looking at a potential runningback recruit from the Class of 2023 in a Red Devil uniform.

College Park fell from the ranks of the unbeaten after getting blitzed in the first half 38-6 at Antioch, capped by the Panthers scoring 16 points in 20 seconds right before the halftime whistle.

Clayton Valley Charter made a quarterback switch from senior Mason Lovett to his younger brother junior Tyson Lovett and came away with a 21-14 victory at winless Turlock. Mason Lovett moved to runningback and scored the Ugly Eagles first touchdown. But it took a TD pass from his brother to all-league transfer Tony Keck in the final four minutes plus three defensive turnovers to secure the win and move CVCHS to 2-2 entering their bye week.

De La Salle has evened its season mark at 2-2 with back-to-back wins which have featured a total of 82 rushing plays in the Spartan tradition as they continue to navigate a brutal schedule. Junior RB Dominic Kelley scored two TDs and gained 110 yards rushing while his quarterback classmate Toa Faavae raced to an 84-yard score for a 24-10 victory over previously unbeaten St. Mary’s-Stockton, which defeated DLS a year ago.

The Folsom Bulldogs coaching staff was in the stands scouting the Spartans for their annual intersectional showdown in Folsom this Friday.

Concord suffered its third shutout loss in four games 24-0 to Archie Williams-San Anselmo.

Northgate had a bye and opens Diablo Athletic League play this Friday in Orinda against unbeaten Miramonte with the Broncos looking for their first win.

Also without a win, Ygnacio Valley lost to Washington-San Francisco 27-8 and will travel to The City this Saturday to face Galileo, which will be playing only its second game of the season.
