Gas station robber flees police, crashes in Lafayette

LAYFAYETTE, CA (Aug. 23, 2023) —On Tuesday, Lafayette Police Officer’s responded to the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at a local gas station.

Employees of the gas station flagged down an officer on patrol in the area and pointing at the suspect vehicle as it fled onto Mt. Diablo Blvd. The officer attempted a traffic stop at which point the vehicle fled.

After a short pursuit, the suspect turned onto a dead-end residential street and crashed into a drainage culvert. The driver tried to escape on foot up a steep hill but officers were able to quickly detain him.

A subsequent investigation determined that the subject was driving a carjacked vehicle that was taken during another armed robbery in a neighboring state. Police arrested the suspect on multiple charges including armed robbery and fleeing from the police. Officers booked him into the Martinez Detention Facility.
