CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Mar. 26, 2023) — Did you know that 1 in 5 adults in Contra Costa County cannot read or write in English above a 6th-grade level? You can help.

Project Second Chance, Contra Costa County Library’s adult literacy program, is seeking volunteer tutors who are willing to spend three hours a week tutoring a neighbor at a public location or virtually. Whether it’s helping a neighbor read to a child, search for a job, or get U.S. citizenship, volunteer literacy tutors make a world of difference.

No teaching experience or degrees are required; good tutors are empathetic, patient, able to give clear directions, and willing to learn new skills themselves. The first step to volunteer is to complete a prospective tutor orientation form online here. For more information, call (925) 691-3960 or click here.
