Dancing lions usher in the Lunar New Year at Pleasant Hill library
PLEASANT HILL, CA (Jan. 20, 2023) — A standing room-only crowd of 488 gathered January 17 around the center event space of the Pleasant Hill Library to watch a Lion Dance performance by members of the Tomizaki’s Champions Kung Fu Institute of Concord to mark the coming Lunar New Year on January 22.
A lead drummer and several percussionists accompanied the four lions as they pranced and played with the young and old alike in attendance. Senior Community Library Manager Patrick Remer noted the library is hosting various entertainers on Tuesday evenings, but this event drew by far the largest crowd since the library’s grand opening celebration last August.
If you missed the Pleasant Hill show, the dancing lions will perform at the Concord library on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023. The free public performance runs from 6 to 7 PM. Before the show children will have the opportunity to do crafts and receive a “Lai See,” a red envelope containing a “sweet” surprise.
