CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (August 13, 2022) — The Diablo Valley Literacy Council seeks English tutors. English need not be your first language. And you don’t need to have teaching experience. But you can change a life.

They will teach you how to be a tutor. Help ESL (English As A Second Language) adults in your neighborhood to read, write and speak the English language.

Working one-to-one, you will help adults gain confidence and skill which can lead to better jobs, a citizenship, reading books to children and so much more.

They have 2 sessions planned for potential tutors. The first happens Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. via ZOOM. Following that, they will hold an in-person meeting at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. They have scheduled the meeting for Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Good Shepherd is located at 4000 Clayton Road in Concord. You must attend both sessions. A $20 fee covers training, material costs, annual membership and ongoing support.

Adult volunteers typically give one or two hours per week.
