CONCORD, CA (May 31, 2022) — Concord and Clayton marked Memorial Day with a moving ceremony at Todos Santos Plaza on Monday.

Commander Mark Steinberg opened the event. Cub Scout Troop 262 escorted the Colors along with the Naval Sea Cadets. The women of the Ladies First choir provided music. The mayors of Concord and Clayton spoke, along with many others. Kevin Graves, Gold Star father of Joseph Graves, gave the keynote speech.

One sentiment wove its way through the solemn event, reverence and respect for those who have given their lives in honor of the country they served. Placed in the grass in front of the Todos Santos stage, a Soldier’s Cross contained the dog tags of the 23 service members from Contra Costa who have made the ultimate sacrifice since 9-11.

Nearby cities of Clayton and Pleasant Hill also had small ceremonies to give thanks. Each event held with one promise: We will never forget.
