CONCORD, Calif. (Aug. 26, 2021) – The City of Concord’s popular Thursday evening concert series, Music & Market, continues tonight when two bay area musical artists team up in Todos Santos Plaza.

Roy Rogers, began playing guitar at twelve years of age. A year later at age 13, he was performing in a rock ‘n’ roll band that wore gold lame jackets and played Little Richard and Chuck Berry tunes. During the 1960’s Rogers frequented the San Francisco rock clubs where he saw many of the blues greats who inspired him. His long career has seen him collaborating with the likes of Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker, Ry Cooder and Van Morrison.

Rolling Stone magazine proclaimed, “Rogers is an exceptionally articulate slide guitarist, whether he’s scorching Robert Johnson’s ‘Ramblin’ Blues’ or taking a lovely, lyrical journey… or rockin’ it out. One of the rare guitar heroes who values feeling over flash.”

Child prodigy

Recording artist, producer, engineer, harpist and violinist Carlos Reyes has been breaking musical barriers since his first public performance at the age of five. Born in Paraguay South America. He began his musical education at the age of three and a half on the violin. A few years later, his father, a musical and national hero in Paraguay, dared young Carlos to learn the complicated 36 string native Paraguayan harp. Carlos played his first professional harp concert at age 10.

Continuing his musical education, at an early age Carlos eventually learned to play many different instruments including Guitar, Bass, Mandolin, Keyboards, as well as mastering the use of a variety of electronic devices and special effects.

He made his debut on harp with the Oakland Symphony and his debut on the violin with the Oakland Youth Symphony at just fourteen years of age. He has worked in the professional recording industry for commercials, solo artist and instrumental background music for the acclaimed children’s shows “Sesame Street” and “Villa Alegre” when he was still in his teens.

Along with a long international musical reputation, Mr. Reyes has amassed a large enthusiastic Bay Area following always wondering what new surprise or style of music he’ll bring to the stage.

In 2018, Rogers released an album that features harpist/violinist extraordinaire Carlos Reyes. Rogers and Reyes will take the stage in Concord at 6:30 pm Thursday in downtown Concord.

Celebrating community

“We are excited to see Music & Market and other community events return to Concord’s ‘living room,’” said Mayor Tim McGallian. “As of today, more than 70 percent of Contra Costa residents are fully vaccinated, which has enabled us to bring back the events that our community has come to know and love. I encourage all of our residents to have some fun responsibly and, of course, get vaccinated!”

The City thanks the community sponsors who make the concert series possible: Ashby Lumber, Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery, Pacific Service Credit Union, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association, Concord POA, and Visit Concord.

Residents and visitors can enjoy Music & Market every Thursday from July 15 through September 30. The event takes place in Todos Santos Plaza at the corner of Willow Pass Road and Grant Street in downtown Concord. Parking is free. The farmers’ market opens at 4 p.m., and concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.
