Yealimi Noh takes second at LPGA VOA Classic in Texas
CONCORD, CA—LPGA tour rookie Yealimi Noh of Concord went head-to-head with three major champions and came away today in a three-way tie for second place at the Volunteers of America Classic in Texas.
Noh was tied for the lead after the second and three rounds but was overtaken by 2018 Evian Championship winner and six-time US Solheim Cup team member Angela Stanford, who shot the best score of the final round with a 67.
Former Carondelet student Noh began the final round tied with two major champions, Inbee Park and So Yeon Ryu. They were in the final threesome together. Each carded a 70, but Stanford’s round was good enough for a two-stroke victory. Rolex Rankings No. 1 Jin Young Ko finished in solo fifth. Noh’s final round include four birdies and three bogeys.
Playing alongside the role models she idolized since she was a kid, Noh said she still remained calm until the end. “I feel really good, and to be able to play with some of the greatest players in the world was a really good experience for me and I got to learn a lot from them. It was just a really fun learning experience,” said Noh. She did take home $120,709 for her biggest pro payday.
Noh and the rest of the tour’s top players move on to the U.S. Open this week in Houston.
