30 senior athletes make fall college commitments
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (June 18, 2021) — Four local high schools announced 30 senior student athletes signing their National Letters of Intent this spring committing to play their sport starting this fall in colleges from coast to coast.
The signees will be playing 14 different sports in college including baseball, lacrosse, swimming, soccer, water polo, volleyball, rowing, rugby, football, basketball, softball, tennis, wrestling and cross country athletes.
Bay Area four-year schools getting commitments were San Francisco State, UC Berkeley and Saint Mary’s College. Eastern and midwestern schools signing local grads are University of Chicago, United States Naval Academy, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, University of St. Mary, Lindenwood University and Saint Ambrose Academy.

Jay Bedecarré
Jay Bedecarré is a long-time resident and writer in Concord and Clayton. He began his newspaper writing career while still a senior at Mt. Diablo High School and he has been part of The Pioneer since its inception in 2003. Jay also operates Bay Area Festivals, presenting events around the San Francisco Bay Area including Bay Area KidFest annually in Downtown Concord.
