Letter to the Editor — Tim Grayson Failed His Constituents in the Assembly and Now He Wants A Promotion?
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Nov. 1, 2024) — On Sunday, Oct 27, 2024, the East Bay Times published a front page article confirming Tim Grayson’s spotty voting record noting that, “…[Grayson] opted not to weigh in on bills that almost exclusively revolved around environmental regulations, renter protections, reproductive health care, LGBTQ+ rights, public safety and tech oversight.”
Grayson doubled down on his supposed excused absences. However, the East Bay Times reports that, “…he has offered conflicting stories about why he failed to vote on nearly a dozen significant bills during the California Legislature’s final week to pass laws in 2023 – including citing health issues that don’t seem to match up to legislative records.” Furthermore, the Bay Area News Group found that, “…the timing of his non-affirmative votes largely coincided with bills that were opposed by numerous political action committees pumping tens of thousands of dollars into his campaign…As of Oct. 17,…$1.8M in independent expenditures…” These corporate-backed IEs sent several misleading mailers to voters under the committee name, “Integrity California”.
Tim Grayson’s ties to big oil (the second highest recipient – LA Times, July 29, 2024), insurance, and other corporations make him a compromised choice for the State Senate. We need someone with integrity, transparency, and accountability who will look out for the people of Senate District 9, not big monied special interests.
Marisol Rubio, a San Ramon City Councilmember and former DSRSD water district Director and Vice President, is especially offended by these tactics stating, “For people like me struggling to get by, politics isn’t a game, it’s personal. We’re paying the price for others’ self-serving political aspirations. Some legislators will sell their vote to the highest bidder, regardless of the harm it will do to our community. I’m not okay with that.”
