Hot days make for a slightly different 4th of July parade in Concord

CONCORD, CA (July 4, 2024) — This week’s heat wave likely kept some folks away from this year’s 4th of July parade in Concord. This made for less crowded sidewalks around Todos Santos Plaza and great views of the parade for those who braved the heat.

And while it was hot, the temperature kept just below 100 as the parade wrapped up with the Concord Blue Devil’s marching band. One feature from previous parades that folks noticed were missing, the horses. Due to the threat of high temperatures, no horses appeared on Thursday.

However, even with the warm day and the thinner crowd, the 4th of July energy remained high. Many folks dressed up in red, white and blue dresses, hats and shorts. It was a great day to honor this year’s theme “Celebrating Friendship.”

Concord’s evening firework festival opens at Mt. Diablo High School at 4 pm later today.
