Clayton Valley Charter High School in Concord celebrated Senior Signing Day on Friday.

Each spring on May 1, graduating high school seniors around the country commit to their next steps. Despite the shelter-in-place order that has closed down schools, CVCHS organized a special “drive-thru” event on the school campus.

Over 175 seniors in cars decorated with their college colors drove the celebration route to a staging area where they got out to announce their plans to cheering family and supporters including school administrators, faculty, staff, student volunteers and the school cheer squad. The event was a shout-out to the Class of 2020’s post high school commitments.

CVCHS worked with the Contra Costa Health Services and County Office of Education to ensure proper social distancing protocols for all participants.

Each student was photographed with their family in front of the CVCHS red carpet banner. They then got back in their vehicles where they were given their cap and gown, a CVCHS 2020 Graduate yard sign and t-shirt.

The schools executive director Jim Scheible said, “CVCHS is incredibly proud of our seniors and the next steps they have chosen. We have students going on to four-year universities, two-year colleges, the military, trade schools, apprenticeships and the workforce – and we want to celebrate them all.”

Graduation is scheduled for June 2 with the final day of school for freshmen, sophomores and juniors is June 4.
