Clayton bocce players, CBCA host fundraiser to help local businesses

We take many things for granted until we can’t do them anymore, and bocce is certainly one of those things.

I look forward to the day this pandemic ends and we can get back to the game we love –interacting with friends and neighbors at our beautiful facility in Clayton.

The pandemic is affecting everyone’s economic situation, some more than others. Clayton’s economy is dependent on small businesses, which have been hit hard.

The Bocce Committee encourages league players (and everyone else in Clayton) to patronize our downtown eating establishments. But we want to go further. Among the many victims of this pandemic are those with not enough to eat or who are unable to access other basic services and who, even after the pandemic ends, may be out of a job. It is for the benefit of those less fortunate that the Bocce Committee is sponsoring a fundraiser in conjunction with the Clayton Business & Community Association (CBCA).

The CBCA is accepting donations online for the purchase of gift certificates to any of our local businesses. To make a donation, go to claytonbocce.org and click on the link in the “donate” box.

You will need to:

• Provide your contact information.
• Select the amount you wish to donate.
• Optional: Specify the name of a local business for purchase of gift certificate(s).
• Pay using a PayPal account or a major credit card.

We will periodically convert the donations to gift certificates and distribute them to local groups that help those in need.

Preparing for the return of bocce play

The Bocce Committee remains committed to playing the spring league, and we will do our best to get in all three league seasons.

Some have asked whether they can use the courts with their own balls, since people are allowed to go outside for exercise. The answer is no. Playing on the courts in an ungroomed condition can cause serious damage.

We look forward to the day bocce returns to Clayton and we thank each of you for your continued support, not only of the game, but in helping others during this national crisis.
