What is DEI and Why Is It Being Dismantled?
(May 6, 2025) — Over the last 40 years the goal of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) has been to address inequities in all aspects of our society. Join a Community Conversation webinar on Thursday, May 15 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. titled What Is DEI and Why Is It Being Dismantled?
A panel will discuss answers to the following questions: Why was DEI created? What are its benefits and challenges? Why do some people support DEI and others perceive it as threatening? What is its future in our country?
Panelists include:
- Shanelle Scales Preston, District 5 Supervisor, Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors;
- Michael Urbina, Executive Recruiter for DEI at Pure Storage;
- Peter Kim, Co-Director, Racial Equity and Social Justice, Contra Costa County
Mr. Kim will also serve as the moderator.
