Two Pleasant Hill artists earn honors at State Fair

SACRAMENTO (July 27, 2025) – If you go beyond the “Texas sized” turkey legs and the Longhorn cattle that really should be roaming free in Texas, you’ll find a quiet – and air conditioned – respite in the Fine Art Gallery at the California State Fair.
As I wandered, I came across two serene entries from Pleasant Hill residents Jeannette Fromm and John Devilliers – with both earning Awards of Merit.
In her “Painting of Three Pears,” Fromm said she wanted to “lead the viewer in a circular movement from one pear to the other.” Fromm’s was a traditional oil painting, while Devilliers used color pencils for his “Beauty in Burlap.”
The exhibit is one of the largest judged art shows in the Golden State, with entries ranging from digital composition to paintings and sculptures.
Truth be told, I couldn’t pass up the smoked turkey leg. And yes, it was massive.
