Special bowling fundraiser to benefit Pacheco Adobe
CONCORD, CA (Aug. 15, 2025) — Concord is home to a landmark listed in all three historical registries – the Fernando Pacheco Adobe, located next to the 26-acre Hillcrest Park in North Concord.
Don Fernando built the adobe in the early 1850s as his ranch headquarters and as his family’s residence. He was the oldest son of Don Salvio Pacheco, who founded Concord, then known as Todos Santos. Don Fernando and his wife Pasquala raised their six children at the adobe and were famous for their generous hospitality.
The city of Concord acquired the adobe from Contra Costa County in 1979 via a grant deed requiring the property be used “for the purposes of public park and recreation and for the preservation of the historical aspect of the site.” The Contra Costa Horseman’s Association helped manage the property and hosted horse shows on the site for decades.
Because of this rich history, the city has been seeking partners to rehabilitate, adaptively reuse, and manage the adobe and its surrounding property since 2020. Although the adobe has been almost continually occupied since the time of Don Fernando Pacheco, it needs significant structural and aesthetic repairs, in addition to updated fixtures and furnishings.

Councilmember Dominic Aliano and I have worked with city staff to submit applications for federal and state funding, to no avail. Our goal is to return this national historic landmark to life and further revitalize the North Concord area. This has been done successfully in Monterey, at the Cooper Molera Adobe.
Because our previous efforts to find partners with funds to help revitalize the abode have been fruitless to date, I am organizing the inaugural Don Fernando Pacheco Adobe Bowling Fundraiser, in partnership with the Concord Historical Society. This fun event is open to all ages and will help start a seed fund for matching grants to rehabilitate the historic Don Fernando Pacheo Adobe.
The “Come Roll with Us” fundraiser will be Saturday, Oct. 4, at Clayton Valley Bowl, 5300 Clayton Road. Check-in 12:30-1 p.m., with bowling 1-3 p.m.
Sponsorship opportunities are available at the $1,500, $1,000, $500 and $300 levels. You can also register a team of five bowlers for $400 or sign up as an individual bowler for $60. Contact Carlyn4CityCouncil@gmail.com for more information. Confirm your registration/sponsorship by Saturday, Sept. 20.
