CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (June 24, 2025) — Clayton Mayor Kim Trupiano and Vice Mayor Jeff Wan will respond to a Civil Grand Jury report at a special meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 24.
After an investigation into high staff turnover and possible legal violations by the City Council, the Grand Jury listed recommendations for the city to implement by Dec. 1.
Meanwhile, homeowners in Clayton’s Oakhurst development narrowly approved a fee increase for the Geological Hazard Abatement District (GHAD. The funds help monitor, prevent and respond to issues like soil erosion and landslides in the hillside neighborhoods. *Pete: new story here
“The work of the district is essential for the safety and well-being of our community,” noted resident Nancy Beaver.
However, resident Glenn Miller, criticized the voting process and called out spending on “a bogus consultant.”

Top firefighter: After becoming a captain as a firefighter-EMT, Theresa Watkins relaunched her career as a firefighter-paramedic. One year later, she earned the position of fire engineer-paramedic – along with the honor of being the Kiwanis’ Firefighter of the Year.
“Theresa is the consummate ideal that every fire chief would want. If I could clone her 100 times over, I would,” said Chief Lewis Broschard.
